We’re back with part deux–Kacey & Karl’s wedding–and I’m loving how they incorporated so much personality and sentimentality into every detail. Held on the bride’s parents’ property, (complete with a beautiful restored farmhouse + funky old warehouse), Kacey and Karl’s DIY style fell right into place. Customized family-heirloom wedding dress? Check! Mix and match two- piece bridesmaid dresses? Check! Antique wagon dessert display with a confetti wedding cake? Check, check! When it came to blending family tradition and personal touches, these two totally rocked it.
From the bride: Between decorations, food, flowers, DJs and cakes I had a lot of decisions to make. Luckily I knew that I wanted nothing of our day to be ordinary. I was raised to be different and different this wedding shall be! I’m so thankful that I had the best help from all of my family and friends and I know it couldn’t have happened as perfectly as it did without them. I also had the best wedding planner (who became a good friend!)–Brooke Boothe. I had the pleasure of working with the best vendors a bride could ask for, who did everything they could to make me happy and made me feel so special. I knew that I wanted to wear my grandmother’s wedding dress, that had been passed down for my Mom wear when she got married. So the first step was to find a seamstress who knew how special the dress was and could help us with a few touch ups. The dress was from the 1940s so it needed some TLC. Thankfully, we found Lois. She was amazing and took the job as serious as we hoped she would! She also made my rehearsal dinner dress out of the wedding dress that belonged to my moms best friend Jamie (who is more like family). I wanted to incorporate the people who meant the most to us and I truly feel like I accomplished that. We wore my great grandparents wedding bands (that fit like they were made for us), and the day of the wedding my Dad gave me my great grandmothers ring that my great grandfather gave to her when they first began courting. I wanted every thing about the wedding to have meaning to it. Every detail was carefully chosen to be true to us. Karl didn’t make too many decisions about the wedding, but he gave me his opinion when I needed it! Since he’s a talented carpenter, his job was doing the hard labor type of work that went into the wedding! The reception was at my parents warehouse right on the little Blackwater River. It needed a bit of work to be wedding ready, and he spent countless hours and many late nights fixing it up to make my dreams come true. The ceremony took place at my parents 1790 colonial home that they have been restoring for 18 long years. They are the 5th generation of Merediths to live there. They finally were able to move in about a year before the wedding–perfect timing! I will never forget is standing at the foot of the stairs when they bought the house, and picturing myself arm in arm with my Dad walking down those steps to my future husband. And we did just that. My Mom did my hair in my bedroom. We got married on the front porch on the most beautiful day I’ve ever seen. With our family there to watch and our closest friends by our sides, we said ‘I do’, and it was the best moment of my life! The reception was absolutely perfect. It surpassed my wildest dreams. The farm tables were decorated with the most beautiful flowers from Seasonal Flowers, turkey feathers and antique oil lamps. Our sweetheart table and set up looked straight out of a magazine. We had an antique wagon for our deserts which included all kinds of scrumptious cakes and pies. The night went by faster than we could’ve ever imagined. I will be forever thankful for every person that was there to love and support Karl and I on the most important day of our lives. It was an unforgettable day, truly perfect in every single way!
