You know that part in the wedding…. everyone’s in their seats and the band or DJ is ready to get the party started. He introduces the couple for the first time (blush) and it’s time to dance that all-important first dance.

But to what song? Here are a few tips on finding the perfect tune:
1. Think about your first date, the proposal, the first visit to the parents’ house. These are important milestones that can be set to music or make you think of a special song. Did you bond over your love of John Mayer or Ed Sheeran? Do you both happen to know all the words to a song from start to finish and don’t know why? These are great ways to narrow down that song choice.
2. Listen to LOTS of music! Also keep an ear out at your friend’s and family’s weddings for that special song. You may just find your inspiration.
3. Make sure you listen closely to the lyrics of the songs that are in the running. You don’t want raunchy visuals, or too much profanity that cause older guests leave the dance floor.
4. Talk to your friends and family. They may have noticed that you and your future groom always dance to a certain song when they are out with you. They may remember the song that was on the radio when you told your parents you were getting married. In other words, they may remember something that sparks your imagination!
5. Come to an agreement with each other. Make sure it is clear what each of you like and don’t like (for whatever reason) so you can narrow down the choices.
6. Once you decide on the song (the earlier the better) talk to your DJ or band and make them familiar with it. Also, practice dancing to it! Everyone loves a couple who can dance together!
