See How This Rustic Reception Space Was Completely Transformed!

March 21, 2017

You know those weddings where the couple’s love and personality just shines right through? That’s our absolute favorite–and Megan & Corey’s wedding is a perfect example. Megan had a vision that would turn her parents’ stables into an intimate venue, and with the help of an incredible team of vendors, this couple transformed this space into the ultimate rustic backdrop for their barn wedding.

From On Your Mark LightingOak Hill Stables was the site for Corey and Megan’s fall wedding, courtesy of Corey’s parents and stable owners, Candy and Danny. The bride-to-be had a pretty clear vision of what she wanted her wedding ceremony and reception to look like. The couple and their families worked hard to create the design that fit her vision. For their event lighting, the couple reached out to us to be a part of the decorating design team. Our lighting design for the vast 32’ tall 7500 square foot ceiling had to fulfill three purposes: the lighting needed to create visual interest, invoke a more intimate mood, and provide ambient lighting for the event.

We used a theatrical template in the lights to project a “leaf breakup” pattern onto the ceiling befitting of the fall setting. This aesthetically pleasing texture was then warmed up with amber gels that tinted the lights with a warm incandescent hue. Lastly, in order to provide the adequate amount of foot candles needed for the guests to witness the ceremony, dine, and dance the night away, we needed 12,000 watts of light. By using the ceiling’s naturally reflective quality for bounce, a soft and even indirect light resulted throughout the space. An extra wow factor was the translucent quality of the ceiling, allowing the beautiful patterned light to glow through the roof and be seen on the outside.

The final design challenge was the not-so-attractive back wall–the first sight the guests would see upon entering the riding arena. A huge quantity of lightweight velour fabric was contoured to the arched roof, draping the entire wall. The combination of the fabric and uplights on the wall softened the backdrop of the event and allowed the guests’ eyes to travel from the beautiful ceiling down to the lush green of the natural grass carpeted floor. With everyone’s help, Megan was able to turn her first inspiration into everyone’s lasting impression!
