From the newlyweds: Every summer growing up, Caroline’s family would visit her Pop-Pop’s house in Easton, Maryland. Pop-Pop dug his roots in Easton, working as a Lieutenant on the police force and raising a family there. His son and daughter-in-law fell in love in that same town, and over thirty years later, Caroline, his granddaughter, and her fiancé, Karl, would marry there too.
We both studied architecture under the same roof for five years, yet didn’t meet until one fateful day in early May just two weeks before Karl’s graduation. We were inseparable the following summer when we both coincidentally had work lined up in Norfolk, VA, and spent our time soaking up the salt life between the bay and the beach. A few years of long distance followed, during which time, charming Easton was often a meeting point. We said goodbye to the days of distance when we packed up to move to New York City. We love exploring the beautiful madness of the big city – and being able to do so together. During our time here, the Eastern Shore has since been a welcome respite from the bustle of the city. At the end of our first summer here in Brooklyn, we got engaged.With our admiration for architecture, and backgrounds in historical renovation, the brick arches, sweeping stairwell, and rich history of the Tidewater Inn felt like the perfect fit right away.
Our wedding was sentimental and nostalgic, seeking to incorporate elements from our past and influenced by history – copper engraving plates used to print family wedding invitations, heirloom silver passed down through generations, and readings and songs authored and performed by close family. We wanted to replicate the warm, nostalgic feeling invigorated by our memories here, like an idyllic summer night filled with familiar faces, laughter, and love. The magnolia became the central theme representing a cherished memory as their sweet smell always reminded us of Easton.
