Tell us a little bit about your business.
– What made you decide to work in the wedding industry? What is your favorite part about it? –
I first fell into photography when I was in graduate school. I shot a friend’s wedding in Vermont as a gift. I needed to shoot a story for photojournalism class. I gave him 20 5x7s and my phone started to ring. I was hooked! My favorite thing about it is definitely the people! And I love the big show with all of the flowers, music, and dancing.
– What’s been your favorite trend in weddings lately? –
I have always loved the look of film. There is an honesty to it.
– What is your best advice for couples when looking for a wedding vendor? –
Get the vibe. Do you like them? You will spend the best day of your life with this person. Get references and trust your gut. Live music has more energy than a DJ. Great flowers really elevates the event.
– What do you think is the best thing about the array of options that you can potentially offer a couple? –
Hard work is number one. From the beginning to the middle to the end, I stay present to tell the story. I have worked at newspapers as a photojournalist. Telling the visual story and documenting the wide spectrum of moments is my job. I never boss people around and I try to be invisible taking pictures you didn’t know were being made.
– Can you tell us an example of a problem that you solved for a wedding client? –
Safety pin for a broken bridal zipper. I have offered an energy bar to a hungry bride right before the ceremony. I have done yoga breathing and given homeopathic Rescue Remedy to a stressed bride.
– What is the most important thing you would like couples to know about your service? –
I love making photographs and I love weddings. Since 1994 I have shot around 200 of them. Two things guide the process. What does the client really want and where is energy of the moment leading? I tell your story one photograph at a time.
