Whether you’re dreaming of sailcloth on the waterfront or longing for a clear-top tented garden party, the Coastal Team can make it happen.

We chatted with Zach, President of Coastal Tented Events, about all things tent and event rentals to bring you a comprehensive look behind the scenes of the event world, and we even have a few of the gorgeous Coastal Tents to share too!

Tell us a little bit about Coastal Tented Events.
– What made you decide to work in the wedding industry? –

I grew up on the Delmarva Peninsula, so for a long time I didn’t realize what a destination this place really is. But people travel here from all over the country to celebrate some of the most important moments of their lives. Especially weddings. Once I saw that, I knew I wanted to be part of those moments.

The question became: how do we serve them best? Somehow, we landed on tents. It turned out to be the perfect fit.

We’ve been in business for sixteen years and have done hundreds of coastal weddings. Early on, there was nothing else on the Eastern Shore offering what we did, so we tried to be everything to everyone. Over time, the market evolved. So did we. Today, we’ve come back to our roots, focusing on what we do best: building the structure and foundation that weddings (and other big moments) are built around.

For us, it’s more than just a tent. It’s about giving couples a clear starting point when everything feels overwhelming. The right first domino, so the rest of the day can fall into place.

– What is your favorite part about it? –

My favorite thing about working in the wedding industry is the genuine connection I get to have with people during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

My wife works in labor and delivery. Recently, she delivered a baby for a couple who had celebrated their wedding day in one of our tents. When she told me that, something occurred to me. In very different ways, my wife and I are both part of two of the most important days in a couple’s life.

A wedding day isn’t just another event. It’s a real transition. Anyone can show up as a guest for a few hours. But what drives me is being the person people are counting on to make the moment actually happen. Being trusted with that responsibility.

Some people think of tents and immediately think about bad weather. For us, it’s so much more than that. A tent is the structure that allows everything else to unfold. I see our role as a trusted partner. We help couples kick off a strong, joyful marriage by giving them a solid foundation.

I love being there to serve, to problem-solve, and to watch all the moving pieces come together, like an orchestra, inside something we built from the ground up.

– What’s been your favorite wedding trend lately? –

Truthfully, I’m not someone who chases wedding trends. I think that’s part of what makes our role so important.

I like to picture a wedding as a pyramid. At the base are the fundamentals: where you’re getting married, the venue, and sometimes, the tent. As you move up, you get into things like tables, chairs, dance floors, and layouts. At the very top are the details: florals, candles, cocktail hour appetizers, the first dance song. All the beautiful, trend-driven elements people love.

What we do lives at the foundation. The infrastructure.

We create spaces where all the trends or classics can shine. We build the structure that allows new ideas to be layered on, safely, seamlessly, and collaboratively. By planners, florists, and designers who live and breathe those details.

Whether it’s working with a vendor to shape a floral installation or placing tables just right so a design can fully come together, we love watching a space transform. That’s when it becomes truly one-of-a-kind. The foundation allows creativity to flourish.

– Are there any trends that you are expecting to see in the upcoming wedding season? –

The production value of weddings right now is incredible and I only see that continuing to rise.

Couples are thinking deeply about the guest experience. They know the day is about them, but they also want their guests to feel truly wowed. From the moment they arrive to the final send-off. The way guests are welcomed, the flow of the ceremony, the scale of the band, the atmosphere, even how the night ends. It’s all intentional and it’s all elevated.

I think that comes from the fact that we don’t get many chances anymore to gather and celebrate like this. Couples want to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Something people will talk about for months. The goal is ease, beauty, and atmosphere, all working together, and made to look effortless.

Inside our tents, I’m always amazed by how everything comes together. Every detail is aimed at how the space feels for guests. To match that, we’re constantly elevating our own offerings. That includes new structures, refined layouts, or elements like a Aurora sailcloth archway we got for the arrival bars and ceremonies.

What I look forward to most each season is the surprise. Seeing how elegantly these spaces are transformed and how creativity keeps finding new ways to live inside the structure we build.

– What would you say are the top 3 things couples should consider when looking for a wedding vendor? –

Broadly speaking, the most important thing is to work with the right people. The right people make it all feel effortless. That applies to every vendor you choose.

First: trust.

You should be able to trust your vendors completely. The more trust you have, the more enjoyable the planning process becomes. And the more present you’ll be on your wedding day.

Second: guidance.

Choose people who know how to orient you and help you navigate the hundreds of decisions you’ll face. The best vendors have already thought through what most people miss and will surface the right questions early. Before they turn into problems.

Third: translation of vision into experience.

The right vendor doesn’t just execute how something looks, but how it feels. Your wedding should be designed around your location, your people, and your priorities. So it feels authentic to you, not like a template.

– What do you think is the best thing about the array of options that you can potentially offer a couple? –

The best thing about the range of options we offer is that couples never have to navigate them alone.

The connection I build with clients doesn’t happen in a couple of meetings. I’m in daily communication with couples, parents, and planners for months leading up to the wedding. That high-touch approach is what sets us apart. Because the tent is the foundation of the entire day, I’m listening closely and making sure every choice reflects who you are, that contingencies are covered, and that you feel confident you’ve taken the right first step.

That’s what allows couples to be fully at ease and truly present on their wedding day.

We can scale up or down in terms of size, aesthetic, and budget. What matters most is understanding what’s important to you, then helping you build a clear roadmap to get there. Our clients are happiest because we’re not just another vendor they have to manage. We’re a guide who turns options into a plan and a plan into a seamless experience.

– Can you tell us an example of a problem that you solved for a wedding client? –

Our largest wedding of 2025 landed during one of the most turbulent weather weeks we’ve seen in years.

More than 260 out-of-state guests and over a dozen vendors were traveling in for a beach wedding. About four days before setup, a nor’easter formed off the coast. The forecast was changing by the hour. At that point in October on the Eastern Shore, every indoor venue had been booked for months. There was no backup plan.

The challenge was saving the wedding and doing it safely. We had to protect the guests, the vision of the day, and my crew, both during the event and during teardown.

We made the call to pivot from a sailcloth tent to a clear-top structure tent and added multiple auxiliary tents for protection. It was a major change to something the couple had been envisioning for months. Changes like that naturally bring uncertainty. Our job was to lead calmly, communicate clearly, and make sure the couple felt supported every step of the way.

In the end, the result was even better than the original plan. The clear-top tent completely transformed the feel of the wedding. From worry to absolute bliss. We caught a perfect pocket of weather for the ceremony, and just as it ended, the rain began. Guests barely noticed. Everything just worked.

Weeks later, I received a thank-you email from the father of the bride. That’s the moment that stuck with me. It was a reminder that what we really do is protect once-in-a-lifetime moments when they matter most.

– What is the most important thing you would like couples to know about your service? –

After the excitement of getting engaged, many couples are surprised by how quickly things can feel overwhelming. Suddenly, you’re not just imagining a wedding. You’re responsible for building one. And with private-home weddings and tented events, the infrastructure decisions shape everything that comes next.

A tent is the first domino. Before flowers, décor, lighting, or layouts can be finalized, you need clarity around the big picture: where guests will gather, how the space will function, how vendors will work together, and what’s truly possible on the site. That’s where we come in.

What we do best is make sense of the whole. Because the tent is the foundation, we take ownership of how the entire day fits together. We think about how every vendor will succeed in the space, how the flow will feel for guests, and how to plan for the unexpected. We’re constantly zooming in on the details and zooming out to protect the experience as a whole.

Most importantly, couples should know that we truly care about their day. From start to finish, we do everything possible to make it happen. Our goal is to support the couple, their families, their vendors, and their guests by creating a strong foundation that allows the day to unfold beautifully.
