This backyard waterfront wedding romanticized everything Maryland has to offer. From sailing to Smith Island cakes, Caitlin and Brendan’s nautical nuptials showcased everything this couple holds dear–even their sailboat, The Blue Bayou.
From Maureen of Elle Ellinghaus Designs: Caitlin and Brendan met at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in their junior year. Throughout their time together at SMCM, Caitlin and Brendan bonded over their love for the water and sailing. After graduating, Caitlin and Brendan continued to sail the waters of the Chesapeake Bay together on their boat, The Blue Bayou.
Caitlin and Brendan wanted to celebrate their love for one another combined with their love of sailing. They were married on a beautiful day in May, on the front lawn of Caitlin’s family home in Queenstown on the shores of the Wye River. The arch they were married under was built by Caitlin’s father made entirely of driftwood found on the beach of their home.
After exchanging vows, the reception continued in the back yard under a dimly lit tent filled with sailboats, hydrangeas and happy tears. In her speech, Caitlin’s sister recited “Blessing the Boats (at St. Mary’s)” by Lucille Clifton which brought both the bride and groom to tears. The newlyweds then celebrated with twelve Smith Island Cakes in various flavors, a cigar bar, a sailboat bar and, along with their guests, danced the night away under twinkling lights on the same river they fell in love on.
