From their coincidental first date to walking down the aisle, fate has written this couples fairytale. Brooke and Justin’s wedding was both a celebration of their love and a celebration of where life has brought them. After a rough year, Sunset Beach Resort was definitely this couple’s ‘Happily Ever After’!
Brooke and Justin’s autumn wedding at Sunset Beach Resort in Cape Charles, VA is a touching story of fate and faith. The two met in 2011 aboard a party bus for a mutual friend’s birthday celebration. When the bus broke down along a highway, Justin came to Brooke’s rescue by arranging an escape. They got a ride in the same car and the rest is history.
After becoming engaged, Brooke sadly lost her father to cancer later that month. It was difficult for Brooke to plan the wedding day she had always dreamt of spending with her father, and her wedding plans seemed hopelessly derailed. In a surprise twist, her family’s love for camping saved the day. While scouting online for new campgrounds to take the family RV, Brooke found Sunset Beach Resort. Coincidentally, she discovered the resort was holding a contest to win a wedding on the beachfront property. Brooke submitted her story to the Happily Ever Hitched contest and beat out over 80 submissions to win a sunset ceremony on the beach. Brooke and her family believe it was her father’s intervention that led Brooke to Sunset Beach Resort to ultimately win her dream wedding.
From the bride, Brooke: As I sit here thinking about the memories from my wedding day, I get butterflies in my stomach all over again. The day of your wedding goes by so fast – I cannot stress that enough! Having a wedding planner relieves some of the stress and worry that day. I was lucky enough to have a four-day stay at Sunset Beach Resort, so my experience was more than just the actual wedding day!
Sunset Beach Resort is just lovely; the staff, the guests and the atmosphere are just awesome! The name does not disappoint–I have never in my life seen a more gorgeous sunset. The weather for our weekend was absolutely perfect. The cottage we stayed in was so accommodating (of course I over-packed!), and the location was perfect; my mom and sister were able to rent the cottage that backed up directly to mine. It was great to have so many of our family and friends within walking distance for the weekend.
The Resort went above and beyond my expectations, from ceremony to reception! The food was delicious, and I was so impressed with Walt and his staff that went back to eat there three different times that weekend! Alison to the Altar did a wonderful job with décor and planning. My photographer, Paige Engel, was by far the best person to work with. Not to mention her photography is beautiful and she is just so sweet and friendly. The cake from Incredible Edibles is still being talked about by many of our guests; I may be partial, but it was the best wedding cake I have ever tasted!
We had such a great experience at Sunset Beach Resort—I would recommend it to any couple looking for an amazing place to get married. In fact, our family and friends had such a good time we are already planning a trip back for our first-year anniversary with our entire wedding party!
