7 Must-Have Trends for Your 2017 Wedding

January 9, 2017

It’s that time of year again! We always look forward to spending engagement season getting to know our newest brides-to-be and catching up with our planners to see what they have in store for the next season of weddings. As usual, they came up with 7 swoon-worthy trends that we can’t wait to see come to life!

Greenery is hot! It’s not only the Pantone color of the year for 2017, but it is one of the biggest floral elements in weddings right now. The CCS Bride is incorporating beautiful and lush garlands down the table with accents of white and gold. The look is elegant, natural, and effortless.

I love that couples are choosing venues that allows for a weekend-long celebration! Whether it’s in a town that offers a variety of things for guests to do in their free time, or a beautiful estate that makes for an intimate getaway for family and friends, the idea of stretching the celebration over a few days is so appealing! A few of my favorite spots for this on the Eastern Shore would have to be The Anchorage located in Earleville, MD, or any of the Brittland Estate properties surrounding Chestertown, MD. Both offer amazing properties for guests to enjoy and are close to the charming towns of Chesapeake City and Chestertown!

–Crop Tops–

Whether paired with a flowing skirt or form-fitting bottom, crop tops were a hit in 2016, not only for the bride, but bridesmaids as well. This is a trend I am sure we will see more of in 2017! Be on the look out for these stylish two-piece bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, particularly appealing for summer brides who are getting married in warmer temperatures – a great recommendation for brides getting married here on the Shore in July and August. My advice is to keep it classy and choose styles that show just a sliver of abdomen, with a skirt that sits high on the hips. Some designs also offer multiple pairings if you are looking for a different ceremony and reception look.

While I still anticipate a good number of neutral wedding designs (which will never get old in my opinion!), bold colors will have their moment in 2017. On the Eastern Shore, we expect to see a lot of deep blue-green shades, especially in waterfront weddings.

The overall feelings of our 2017 weddings are classic and timeless with very personal touches. I wouldn’t say there is a specific trend to point out, but rather, most of our brides are wanting a beautiful wedding that is unique to them–not a replica of a Pinterest wedding. Pinterest still serves as the number one source of inspiration for brides, but instead of full, elaborate boards from our brides, most are coming with general ideas knowing that they want to make their wedding their own.

–Floral Backdrops–

Flower walls are popping up as a backdrop for a ceremony, sweetheart table, or cake table. Often attached to some type of frame or arbor, they are beautiful when used inside or out. Flowers can be real, paper, or foam, so the options are endless! Experiment with shapes, colors, sizes and lighting to create the ambiance you’re looking for.

–The Return of the Wedding Cake–

The wedding cake is finally poised to make a comeback in 2017 and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Dessert displays became uber trendy a few years ago, with couples either choosing to forego a wedding a cake or keep it small and ceremonial. This year, I foresee wedding cakes returning as a focal design piece, adding another layer of texture and structure to the wedding design.
