Eastern Shore Wedding | 2016 Wedding Trends

We turned the page on the calendar and welcomed the new year with open arms! So what do our thoughts turn to? Weddings, of course! This is the time of year for engagements and daydreaming about your wedding plans! And what better to inspire you than the insights of some of our favorite planners? We asked our planners to tell us what they think this wedding season will hold, and here are their top 2016 wedding trends!

This past year, we saw a push towards neutral color palettes and with the new pantone color of the year being a soft pink and light blue (Rose Quartz and Serenity), there will most likely be beautiful, softer color palettes this year. The two colors can be paired together to create a beautiful and elegant look for wedding reception.

— Vintage Chic —

Vintage Chic and a little bit of bling will being showing up in more weddings this season. Soft color hues will still adorn tables, flowers and bridesmaids attire, but look for hints of the past. Whether in the china and stemware, or the use of grandparents’ fine lace, incorporating old is becoming new again! I just designed a tablescape integrating vintage china and crystal with a soft moss linen covered in vintage lace. To pump up this super sweet look, we threw in a little funk with gold and silver vases of ranunculus. I kind of love it…a little bit of this and that make huge statement.

Floral accents are a fantastic way to enhance your design! They can be used in so many different ways throughout your wedding! Pretty Plum Sugar just announced a partnership with BHLND to make gorgeous floral-inspired bridesmaids dresses. Suspended flowers are a great way to add dimension to your tent or room. Floral illustrations can be used on invitations, escort cards, place cards, food & beverage signs and more. You can also accent the Bride and Groom chairs or custom bar with fantastic floral garlands to highlight that area at your reception. Floral accents add a touch of femininity to the design and allow different areas of your reception to be highlighted in a natural way.

Over the past few years, we’ve definitely seen wedding design trend toward the neutral. Soft grays have become a staple accent, frequently paired last year with muted lavender for a delicate garden feel. This year, we anticipate vintage blue taking lavender’s place as the hot wedding neutral—its cool gray undertones and airy essence lending it to everything from seaside to countryside celebrations.

When it comes to the food, incorporating family favorite recipes or food from their ethnic background is another way couples are adding a personal touch. This can also be a creative way to engage guests by sharing the significance of the food on a menu card or frame. Couples also like to incorporate a local favorite from the area the wedding is taking place—Smith Island Cake, Berger Cookies & Scottish Highland Ice Cream are just a few local examples.

Whether they were big, black and dramatic like at Vera Wang, or soft, fluttery and delicate like at Amsale, the feather details at Bridal Fashion Week were everywhere. Lela Rose models strutted down the runway in ostrich feather skirts and Jenny Packham had our favorite cascading bodice dresses.

Couples are increasingly looking for ways to express their personality and tell their story through décor. Couples are doing so by incorporating elements from places they have traveled together, the city they got engaged in, or any place that has special memories—no matter where the actual wedding is held. There are so many unique ways to add these touches with any style or theme. These touches are also a great way to engage your guests & tell them your story.
