The Ultimate DIY Wedding

September 25, 2014

We know beautiful weddings happen here on the Shore at least every weekend and we love to share them with you to inspire, excite and give you ideas for your big day!

Meet Paige and Matt! They were married at The Oaks Waterfront Inn in Royal Oak (just outside of St. Michaels) this past Spring. What struck us about this wedding was the meticulous attention to detail and the beautiful and meaningful personal touches. The bride and her friends (along with the help of her future mother-in-law) made everything, so the DIY aspect was in itself inspiring and frankly, breathtaking.

From the bride:
Q. Where did you find your inspiration?
A. I mostly found the DIY ideas on Pinterest, and wedding blogs and magazines. It also didn’t hurt that my now mother-in-law is a pro at wedding planning and had tons of unique ideas.
Q. What were your favorite aspects of the day?
A. Some of our favorite personal touches were the program and how it showed a fun silhouette of everyone in our bridal party (and then we had the bridal party recreate their own personal silhouette in the wedding pictures), we also loved all of the decorative ribbons on the bridge, chairs, and behind us on the altar, and all of the signs around the property. There were also little pieces of us all over, from our favorite locations, to “sayings” that really captured who we are and how we wanted the day to be.
Q. What advice would you give future brides?
A. I certainly wouldn’t call the DIY ideas a time-saver, there was a ton of time spent focused on all the little details and making them come to life. It probably was a money-saver though. To get similar things from sites like Etsy or boutique dealers would have cost a fortune. I would recommend that other DIY brides start early, don’t let it overwhelm you, and try to make it as personal as possible.
